Overview
Wishing to become a US Marine, at the age of 14 Louis Sarkozy enrolled in the US military school Valley Forge Academy in Philadelphia, graduating in 2015.
He holds a master’s degree in diplomacy and international relations from the American University in Washington DC and is a graduate of the University of New York, with a dual major in history and philosophy.
He co-wrote a book of correspondence, “Une envie de désaccord(s)” [An appetite for disagreement(s)], with his mother Cécilia Attias.
In 2024 he published his second book, an essay in English devoted to the Emperor of the French, Napoleon, entitled: Napoleon’s Library: The Emperor, His Books and Their Influence on the Napoleonic Era.
He was admitted to the Officer Candidate School, one of the US army’s officer training schools, in Georgia, where he pledged allegiance. However, in the end he decided to return to France after realising that his “links with France would slow his progress” in the US army.
In September 2024, he became a commentator with an exclusive contract on LCI, which presents him as its “US specialist”.
Louis Sarkozy is qualified as a liberal conservative, which, he says, is the ideological mould of the Republican Party, of which he is not a member but which he considers his “political family”. He wants the French right wing to “court our fellow citizens with an immigrant background”, while advocating a reduction in migration flows and the application of the OQTF [Obligation to Leave French Territory].
Le Monde describes him as “almost libertarian”, supporting medically assisted procreation (MAP) as well as surrogacy and drawing inspiration from Javier Milei. In 2025, invited by the Republican Party of Louisiana, he intended the investiture of Donald Trump.
He joined the weekly magazine Valeurs Actuelles as a columnist in 2025, as part of the magazine's shake-up to face down competition from the Bolloré group.
